Coaches Notes

Hey Team,

For those of you who don't know, every month we (coaches, members and random strangers) decide on a Member of the Month. This person exemplifies pretty much everything it means to be a CrossFitter. Your member of the month for August @ CFS was Caryn. Caryn is awesome. Today is Caryn's WOD. You can thank Caryn. ;)

Here's Caryn's MOTM interview in the newsletter:

Nickname:  CC

What were you doing before CFS?
I was a member at CFCB since Jan 2013 – I joined CFS when it opened.  Before that I running and doing random gym classes – trying to find something I liked

How did you find CFS and what did you expect?
I found CFS though CFCB- I expected CFS to be an extension of the wonderful community of CFCB - which it was, and more – I’ve met so many wonderful people there who inspire me on a daily basis!

What have you gotten out of CF at CFS (goals reached, accomplishments, etc)?
I’ve met great people, made great friends, and continued to improve my fitness.  I can now consistently do pull-ups, I did my first HSPU, I have PR’d all of my lifts and I can climb a rope (Which I could not do in high school!)

What are you working on now/hoping to achieve in the coming months/year?
I am working on my lifting (always!), my double unders and my T2B.    I want to improve my squat clean – I recently achieved my goal of cleaning more than my body weight, so now I want to get stronger and improve my form!  I would like to hit 300# with my deadlift, and I would like to get strict HSPU and be consistent with my kipping HSPU.  And of course,  muscle ups are on my list.

What do you like to do outside CFS?
Outside of CFS I like to run and bike.  I also love to cook and bake for my family and friends.  I love puttering in my yard and playing in the garden - and sometimes I will even relax with a book.

Favorite joke? Or quote?
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life that you imagined.

If you could be a Crossfit movement what would you be and why?
A clean – because it teaches you the importance of breaking down all aspects of movement, to determine how each part works together to result in the greatest success, not just focusing on the one big thing (strength).   I think this is a great way to approach all aspects of life!  Sometimes changing the smallest thing can result in the biggest success!

Anything else you would like to share about yourself? (Tell us everything ;)  )
I honestly can say that crossfit has changed my life in so many wonderful ways.  I have met an amazing group of likeminded individuals – it is so great to be able to share in my passion for fitness in an environment when I feel welcome, encouraged and supported.  Thanks to CFS and CFCB I’ve gotten in the best shape of my life, I am able to do things that I never dreamed I would do (climb a rope!!) and my quality of life has improved so much!

On a completely unrelated note, this weekend we have two teams competing in the Bridge City Beatdown in Saskatoon! This 3 day event runs athletes through the gambit of physical tests. It's grueling, it's intense and it's a lot of fun.

If you'd like to check out how our two teams are doing here's a to the results page:
