Coaches Notes

Hey Team,

Saturday is our 4 Year Anniversary (birthday?)!

There's a special 4YR WOD @ 9, 10 & 11 along with some fun starting @ 1pm.

We're hosting an Olympic Themed party to celebrate you! We're going to BBQ, hang out, chat and do 'Olympic' events. I put it in quotations because they are pretty loosely based on the actual Olympics.

Here are the events:

1. Golf (putting)
2. Basketball (free throw)
3. Steeplechase (monster obstacle included)
4. Weightlifting: Snatch and Clean and Jerk
5. Table Tennis
6. The less known Olympic event of pie eating
7. Javelin Throw

Come, bring your famjam (and maybe a side dish) and enjoy the festivities.

1-5pm @ CFCB

ps. If you missed my 'Gratitude' post from last week, here it is:

gratitude

Hey Team,

I think Buddha was talking to me directly there.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for being part of our lives. When Christi and I moved back to Calgary from Florida with our son Anders (and Kira on the way) 4 years ago, we had a vision of a community that would share a love for fitness, fun and friendship.

While living with Christi's parents, we slowly put together a 2600 square foot gym in Currie Barracks. As we painted, laid the flooring, put up the rig and put our final touches on what would become CrossFit Currie Barracks, we ran free workouts in the park and started telling everyone who'd listen about this amazing thing called CrossFit.

We reached out to friends, family and random strangers to see if they wanted to be part of little fitness endeavor. I think they could sense our passion (or maybe a little desperation) because people were getting on board. It was amazing.

Our Founding Members (many of which are still with us today) helped us build CFCB (quite literally in some cases) and we couldn't be more grateful.

We opened our doors on August 20th, 2012 with a few wonderful members, a little equipment and an unwavering passion for helping people on their road to fitness. A few weeks later, our daughter Kira was born which made our world even brighter.

Fast forward 4 years and we have the best CF community in Calgary, filled with wonderful people who share a love for fitness & friendship (that's you btw). I have gone from coaching every class, every day, to having a team of the best coaches in the city to help us spread the fitness. While the odd 15+ hour day still occurs, it's always filled with the best members and the best coaches. What more could a guy ask for?!

Thank you for being part of our journey and thank you for constantly reminding us why we love doing what we do. Most of all, thank you for being you.

If you can carve out some time on August 20th we'd love for you to help us celebrate our 4 Year Anniversary. We'll workout in the morning, BBQ in the afternoon and have some family-friendly fun. See you from 1-5.

Cheers,
E&C
