Best part about being a coach

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing how CrossFit transforms people. CrossFit enhances their body, their mind, their health, their relationships, their work & everything in between. It’s fun just being a part of that.

Experience

In 2006 Christi and I bought a personal training studio in south Florida. We left Calgary bright eyed and bushy tailed. We were fortunate enough to work with some of the NHLs finest including the Florida Panthers, a few Olympic athletes, an LPGA tour pro and the world’s best wakeboarder.

Although the high-profile athletes were great, we were really fortunate to have developed strong relationships with regular Joes, desk jockeys and stay-at-home moms. After more than 10000 hours of one-on-one & small group training, in addition to nutrition/weight loss coaching, we decided to pack it all in and move back to Calgary to start CrossFit Currie Barracks. We couldn’t be happier.

Best part about being a coach

In order to be a good coach you must be able to meet each individual where they are and help them find what they are truly looking for. This may be tips on exercise but being a true coach involves listening and trying to understand each individual that comes through the door. Once we have goals set and new things to strive for individuals become happy, stronger, fitter and more motivated in their minds and bodies. This is exciting for both coach and athlete.

Best part about being a coach

Challenging people to be held accountable to movement & personal character standards. Continuing education & learning new life lessons- “Leave your Ego at the Door” is much more than a random statement; it is a prophetic one that most people find they actually have to incorporate within oneself in order to grow personally, and as an athlete. Witnessing these moments of personal growth creates strong bonds within our group, and that has a profound impact on a client’s daily lives.

Experience

I had previous experience competing in team sport internationally, but I find I prefer training for Crossfit as an individual as this provides a platform to own your OWN glories and shortfalls, with a supportive and safe environment to work on those ‘imbalances’. People from all athletic backgrounds, of all shapes and sizes, will find value in the Crossfit community.

Best part about being a coach

There is a certain je ne sais quoi about being a CrossFit coach. I really enjoy helping athletes develop different skills, especially the snatch and clean & jerk, I love the precision that’s required with Olympic lifting. I find it incredibly rewarding to meet a new member that has trouble moving through a full range of motion when they begin CrossFit and, over the course of a few months, I get to watch them regain the mobility they were born with. Being able to motivate someone to push themselves past the point they thought was possible and seeing the excitement on their face when they surprise themselves is actually priceless.

Experience

I started CrossFit in 2014 and moved to Currie Barracks in 2015. Since then I’ve competed in numerous competitions including The Battle in the Barracks, Bridge City Beatdown, Halloween Havoc, the CrossFit Open and The CanWest Games. In 2016, I completed my CF-Level 1 Trainer course and began coaching at Currie Barracks. I’ve taken courses in different sports such as gymnastics, power lifting and strong man to gain more knowledge, better coach athletes and to help with my own progress in the sport of CrossFit.

I love being part of an amazing community and helping members move one step closer to their goals. Helping individuals improve and progress is very rewarding!

Experience

I have been a member at CFCB for 5 years. The coaching I have received, the competitions I have done and the experience I have gained in those 5 years drove me to become a coach myself. It's fun to be able to give back to the community that I have been a part of all these years.

Being a part of an athletes successes. Be it their first pull up or the seasoned athlete crushing their Fran time. I get as excited or more when I see athletes obtain their fitness goals. It’s such a positive vibe.

Experience

I have been an athlete for 6 years and a coach for 2 years. CFCB and Crossfit has been a big part of my many successes. Boasting a 2nd place podium finish, support through recovering from injury and encouragement to be the best coach I can be. With such a positive atmosphere and a welcoming smiles every day I walk into the the box it feels like home and As a 40 plus masters athlete I’m in the best shape of my life.

Best part about being a coach

Honestly, it's seeing the change you can make in someone's movement, thinking or for me, nutrition.

There's many times coaching someone where you can see in their eyes that they don't think they're capable of something or have been working at something for so long and just a little change in perspective gets them to their goal. I think good coaches see this kind of thing every day.

On days where it's not movement, it's making someone's day through a bad joke or a smile. Sometimes the best workout had absolutely nothing to do with the workout itself. It's a responsibility and an honour to try to give each person the best hour of their day.

Experience

I grew up playing basically all the Canadian sports before thinking I wanted to become a journalist. What I actually wanted was to make an impact on people's lives and I thus began coaching CrossFit two years ago doing just that. Since then, I've worked tirelessly on honing the craft, gaining experience through further education and taking feedback from members, coaches and anyone around me.

I'm a 25 year old kid by birth so I can't say I've "experienced" major events from the 80s like the Flames last Stanley Cup, but I try to learn as much as I can from those around me everyday.

Best part about being a coach

The excitement of watching people meet their goals and knowing you played a small roll in their journey. Providing motivation and knowledge to members to help them achieve those goals and do things they never thought possible.

Experience

I found Crossfit while sitting on my couch watching Youtube and recovering from my 2nd ACL surgery. I was absolutely amazed by the athletes and the things they could do, I had to try it. Six months later, I did my first real Crossfit WOD (Fight Gone Bad) and I was hooked. Laying on the ground post WOD and staring at the ceiling, I knew I had found the sport that would fulfill my competitive nature. There is nothing I love more than when the music is loud, the steel and sweat are flying around during a WOD, every member is trying their best and you can feel the energy throughout the building. That's the goal for every workout whether I am coaching or participating in the class.

Best part about being a coach

The best part of coaching is absolutely watching the progression of athletes without them even knowing they’re achieving their goals. Then, all of a sudden, they have that Ah-ha moment. Best! Feeling! Ever!!

Experience

I have been Crossfitting for just over 7 years and coaching for about 5. As a competitive collegiate athlete and national champion it was a natural draw to the competitive nature of CrossFit. Having an amazing group of athletes to support and still challenge me made it easy to keep coming back.
